Background
TP-Link has ended support for their IFTTT integration for both Tapo and Kasa devices. As a result, the TP-Link Tapo and TP-Link Kasa services on IFTTT are no longer available, and Applets using these services stopped working on August 1, 2026.
TP-Link has shared more information about this change in their announcement.
If you previously used the TP-Link Tapo or TP-Link Kasa services on IFTTT, many Applets can continue working by connecting your TP-Link devices to SmartThings and updating your Applets to use the SmartThings service instead.
While not every Trigger or Action has an exact SmartThings equivalent, many common automations, including turning devices on or off, can be recreated by connecting your TP-Link account to SmartThings and updating your Applets to use the SmartThings service. Follow the steps below to update your Applets.
Set up your TP-Link devices in SmartThings
Before updating your Applets, you'll first need to connect your TP-Link devices to SmartThings.
- Download and open the SmartThings app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
-
Tap the + icon in the upper-right corner, then select Add device.

-
Under Partner devices, tap Add.

-
Search for Tapo or Kasa.

-
Select your device type from the list.

-
Follow the on-screen prompts to sign in to your TP-Link account and authorize SmartThings.

Once complete, your supported TP-Link devices should appear in SmartThings.
Update your IFTTT Applets
After your devices have been added to SmartThings, connect the SmartThings service to your IFTTT account and update your existing Applets.
Option 1: Update Applets manually
- Open an Applet that uses a TP-Link Tapo or TP-Link Kasa Trigger or Action.
- Select Edit Applet.
- Remove the TP-Link Trigger or Action.
- Select + and add the equivalent SmartThings Trigger or Action.
- Choose the appropriate SmartThings account and device.
- Save your Applet.
Repeat these steps for each Applet using the TP-Link Tapo or TP-Link Kasa services.
Option 2: Update Applets using the AI Applet Builder
The AI Applet Builder can help update your existing Applets automatically.
Open the AI Applet Builder at ifttt.com/create and enter the following prompt:
I would like to swap every TP-Link Tapo (https://ifttt.com/tplink_tapo) and TP-Link Kasa (https://ifttt.com/kasa) TQA that exists in my current Applets for the equivalent TQA from the SmartThings (https://ifttt.com/smartthings_v2).
Can you do a systematic search of every Applet I have using those TP-Link services, and edit the Applets for me so they use the SmartThings version? Make sure you select the same devices from the TP-Link TQAs whenever possible. Then press Start building. After the AI Applet Builder finishes updating your Applets, review each one to confirm the correct SmartThings devices have been selected.
