Due to recent changes to Instagram's APIs, the functionality of Instagram Applets on IFTTT has been impacted. As result of these changes, personal Instagram accounts are no longer supported by the IFTTT instagram service.
To continue using Instagram Applets, you’ll need to convert your personal Instagram account to a Business or Creator account and reconnect it to IFTTT. This article will guide you through the steps to make the switch and get your Applets working again.
Step 1: Convert Your Instagram Account
To keep using IFTTT with Instagram, you’ll need to switch your account to a Business or Creator account.
Follow these steps to convert your account to a Business account or creator:
- Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
- In the search bar, type “Switch to professional account.”
- Follow the on-screen instructions to select your category and professional type (Business or Creator).
- Tap “Switch to professional account.”
Step 2: Reconnect Your Account to IFTTT
Once your account has been converted, you’ll need to refresh your connection to the Instagram IFTTT service:
- Click Here to access the Instagram service page on IFTTT.
- Select Reconnect and follow the prompts to reconnect.
After reconnecting, your Instagram Applets will function as expected.
Alternative Option: Use an RSS Feed
If you prefer to keep your Instagram account as a personal account, you can use an RSS feed service trigger as an alternative. This option enables you to track your public Instagram posts through an RSS feed then pair that with an action of your choice.
Here’s how to set it up:
-
Create an RSS feed for your public Instagram profile:
- Use an RSS generation tool (such as RSS.app) to create an RSS feed for your Instagram account.
- Enter your public Instagram profile URL in the RSS generator tool, and it will provide you with an RSS feed link.
-
Set up an RSS Applet on IFTTT:
- Go to ifttt.com/create
- Click Add to the right of If This, then search for and select the RSS feed service
- Select the card titled New feed item and enter the URL of the feed you created in Step 1 into the Feed URL field.
- Next, click add to the right of Then That and select a service and action of your choice
- Follow the remaining prompts to name and save your Applet.
With the above set up, when a new photo is posted to Instagram the feed will be updated and trigger your Applet.
