Background
IFTTT accounts can have two different time zones, and they serve different purposes:
Your IFTTT account time zone controls how times are displayed in your Applet activity feed.
The Date & Time service time zone determines the time zone that Applets using Date & Time Triggers will use to run.
For flexibility, your account time zone and the Date & Time service time zone can be set differently. This is useful if you’re temporarily in a new location and want your activity feed to show local times while still having your Applets trigger based on your original time zone. Updating one does not automatically change the other. See below for steps to update either or both time zones.
IFTTT account settings
Follow these steps to update your Account timezone which will affect timestamps shown in your activity feeds:
- Sign in to your account settings
- Under Time zone, select the right zone for your region using the drop down menu
- Save your changes by scrolling to the bottom of the screen and selecting Update
The Date & Time service
Follow these steps to update your Date & Time service time zone, which will affect when Applets using Date & Time Triggers run:
- Navigate to the Date & Time service
- Select ⚙︎ Settings in the top right
- Select Update time zone
- Save your changes by pressing Connect
If a single timestamp seems incorrect
Sometimes an Applet’s activity feed looks correct overall, but one specific entry such as a Triggered At time appears at the wrong time. This can happen when the connected service itself is using a different time zone.
Example:
You live in Pacific Time, and your IFTTT account is set to Pacific. However, if you connect a thermostat that is set to Eastern Time in its own settings, using it as a Trigger may cause the activity feed to show the Triggered At time in Pacific, but three hours ahead. This happens because the thermostat reported the event in Eastern Time.
To resolve this:
Check the time zone settings for the connected service in its app or website and adjust them to match your local time.
Do I need to update for daylight savings time?
You do not need to manually adjust your IFTTT account or Date & Time service for daylight savings time. If the time zone you’ve selected observes daylight savings, the change will occur automatically and your Applets will continue to run at the correct local time.
