What is the Monzo 1p Savings Challenge?
The Monzo 1p Savings Challenge is a simple way to build savings automatically throughout the year using IFTTT.
Starting on January 1st, the Applet moves money from your main account into a Pot of your choice each day. The amount increases by 1p every day:
Day 1: 1p
Day 2: 2p
Day 3: 3p
and so on...
Once enabled, the Applet handles the daily movement into your chosen Pot automatically.
How to get started
Go to the Mozno Service page
Click Connect
Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your Monzo account to IFTTT
Once connected, enable the Monzo 1p Savings Challenge Applet here
After enabling the Applet, money will begin moving from your main account into your selected Pot automatically based on the calendar date
Can I pause the challenge?
Yes. You can stop the Applet at any time and then resume it later. To do so:
Go to your My Applets page.
Click or tap the 1p Savings Challenge Applet to open it
Select Connected and toggle the slider to switch it to Disconnected
While disconnected, the Applet will not run. When you're ready to resume you can re-enable the Applet by viewing it here and pressing connect.
Important to note:
When you re-enable the Applet, it resumes based on the current calendar date, not where you previously left off.
For example:
If you enable the Applet on January 10th, it will move 10p into your chosen Pot.
If you disable it on January 11th and re-enable it on January 20th, it will move 20p on that day, not 11p.
This keeps the challenge aligned with the calendar date.
How do I stop the Applet?
If you no longer want to continue the savings challenge:
Go to your My Applets page.
View the 1p Savings Challenge Applet.
Toggle Connected to Disconnected.
Once disconnected, the Applet will no longer run.
Is the Monzo 1p Savings Challenge available on the free tier?
Yes! The Monzo 1p Savings Challenge Applet and other Applets published by Monzo are available on all IFTTT plans and does not require a paid subscription.
Although this Applet includes filter code, which is typically part of the Pro+ tier, it is available for free as part of the partnership between Monzo and IFTTT.
