If your Applet isn’t running as expected, this guide will help you understand what might be happening and what you can do to fix it. Whether the Applet is showing errors or no activity at all, the steps below can help get things working again.
Check the activity feed
Start by checking your Applet’s activity feed. This shows a history of when the Applet tried to run and whether it was successful. You can access your Applet's activity feed by viewing your Applet, then scrolling down and press view activity:
If you see events with errors, there may be more information available in the feed. View this article for guidance on how to troubleshoot based on what you find there.
If there are no events in the activity feed, that usually means the Applet hasn’t been triggered yet. Keep reading for possible reasons why.
No new events
IFTTT Applets will trigger for new Trigger events that occur after the Applet has been enabled. They will not retroactively run for actions or data that existed before you turned the Applet on.
For example, the Any new photo trigger from iOS Photos activates when a new photo is added to your camera roll. If you enable this Applet today, it will not trigger for all the photos already on your phone. It will only trigger when you take a new photo after the Applet has been turned on.
If your Applet hasn’t run yet, check whether a new event has occurred. If not, you may simply need to wait for something new to happen that matches your Applet’s trigger.
Threshold Triggers
Some Applets use threshold-based Triggers such as:
Temperature rises above
Temperature drops below
These triggers activate only when a value crosses the threshold you’ve set. They do not trigger continuously while the condition remains true.
For example, if your Applet is set to run when the temperature rises above 75°F, and the temperature is already 76°F when the Applet is enabled, the Applet won’t trigger right away. It will only run when the temperature first drops below 75°F (to 74°F or lower) and then rises above 75°F again. This crossing of the threshold is what triggers the Applet.
If your Applet hasn’t triggered yet and you're using a threshold condition, check whether the monitored value has actually crossed the threshold since the Applet was enabled. If not, the Applet won't Trigger until threshold its monitoring is crossed.
Permissions
Some Applets require specific mobile permissions to run. This is especially true for iOS and Android device-specific services.
For example if your Applet uses a location service Trigger, the Applet will only run if the relevant permission has been granted, in the case the Location permission. If the needed permission hasn't been, the Applet won’t trigger since IFTTT isn't able to access the needed data to determine if the Applet should run.
You can check if any permissions are being requested from the IFTTT app by going to:
IFTTT app > Profile > Mobile settings
Any requested permissions for your Applets will be shown there.
IFTTT app not installed
Not all Applets require the IFTTT app to be installed on your device, but some do. Triggers and actions that depend on your device—like Location, Group Location, or Android/iOS-specific services—require the app to be installed on your phone.
If your Applet relies on one of these services but the IFTTT app is not installed, it won’t be able to run.
