Background
When creating Applets that use Microsoft 365 Excel, you will see a field labeled "Enter the folder path...".
This field tells your Applet exactly where your file is located in OneDrive / Microsoft 365 Excel online.
The Applet relies on this path to either watch for changes when using Triggers or make updates when performing Actions. Entering the path correctly ensures that the Applet works with the correct file in your OneDrive.
How to format your response
Use the following guidelines to specify the path and avoid common formatting issues:
Folders should be separated by a
/Spaces in folder names are allowed (e.g.,
IFTTT/My Tweets)Spaces in file names are also allowed
The “My Files” landing page in OneDrive (the home page section of OneDrive) is not considered a folder.
Leaving this field blank will direct the Applet to your My Files root directory.
Example 1: A folder on your homepage
If your folder is located at the top level of your OneDrive, simply enter the folder name in the Folder path field.
For example, if your top-level folder is named IFTTT, just enter IFTTT — no additional text is required.
To allow your Applet to monitor or update files within this folder, the field should be set as:
This will direct the Applet to the folder called IFTTT. This folder must be located on your OneDrive “My Files” homepage.
Example 2: No folder path
If your file is stored directly in your OneDrive root directory, meaning it appears in My Files and isn’t inside any folder like Example Spreadsheet shown here:
Then the Folder Path field can be left blank:
This setup tells the Applet to use your OneDrive My Files root directory. For Applets with an Action, it will update the file you’ve specified.
Example 3: Folder names with spaces and subfolders
In this example, the folder we’d like to monitor includes a space and is also a sub-folder of the “Work Places” folder, which is itself a sub-folder of the “IFTTT” folder:
Special characters are not required for spaces, so the folder name can be entered exactly as it appears in OneDrive. Additionally, folders can be separated by / to denote hierarchy:
This format will direct the Applet to the ‘IFTTT’ folder, then the ‘Work Places’ folder, and finally to the folder titled “Nov 20”.
Finding the folder path within OneDrive
If you are inside the OneDrive folder you’re trying to specify, you can find the folder path at the top of your screen in the breadcrumb navigation:
Example 1:
To specify this folder in the Applet, you would enter:
This tells the Applet exactly which folder to monitor or update within your OneDrive.
Configuring the "The Name of the Worksheet" Field
The "The Name of the Worksheet" field lets you choose which sheet in your workbook the action should run on. This is important because a workbook can have multiple sheets, and selecting the wrong one will prevent your applet from working correctly.
Example:
If your workbook has a sheet named Sheet1 and you want your applet to perform actions on it, the field should be filled exactly as:
Tips:
Ensure the name matches exactly, including capitalization and spaces.
Verify that the sheet exists in the workbook before running the applet.
