Telegram is one of the most popular services on IFTTT, and it’s a great way to cross-post messages from other platforms like X, Facebook, or Instagram.
Here are some of the most common issues users face with the Telegram service, along with tips on how to troubleshoot them.

Can't find your channel or group in the dropdown menu?
If your Telegram channel or group isn't showing up when setting up an Applet, here are a few things to check:
- Make sure the IFTTT bot has been added as an admin to your channel or group.
- You must be the admin of the Telegram channel or group you're trying to connect.
- Try refreshing your connection to Telegram in IFTTT. This can be done by going to ifttt.com/telegram/settings then pressing Reconnect.
- Send a Start Command. In the group chat or channel, send the message
/start@ifttt
. The bot should respond, allowing you to connect to the group or channel. - Check if the group was upgraded to a "Supergroup." Unfortunately, Telegram Supergroups are not supported by the IFTTT integration at this time.
Why aren't emojis showing up in Telegram messages?
At the moment, the Telegram service on IFTTT doesn’t support emojis. We understand this is a popular request and hope it becomes available in the future.
What triggers are available for Telegram?
Currently, Applets using the Telegram service can be triggered by:
- New messages
- New photos
Note: Video-based triggers are not supported at this time.
What actions can I use with Telegram?
You can use IFTTT to send the following content to Telegram as part of an action:
- Text messages
- Photos
- Videos
- MP3 audio files

Can I trigger an Applet based on a Telegram topic?
Not at this time. Triggers and actions for Telegram topics aren’t currently supported.
