If your Applet isn’t running as expected when using the Android service, there are a few common reasons this can happen, and the tips below will help you troubleshoot and get things working again more quickly.
Check Your Mobile Permissions
Step 1: Open Your Phone's Settings Go to your Settings app (the gear icon).
Step 2: Find the IFTTT App
-
Scroll down and tap Apps or Apps & notifications (depends on your phone).
-
Tap See all apps if needed, then scroll until you find IFTTT. Tap it.
Step 3: Tap on "Permissions" and click the three vertical dots on the upper right corner.
Step 4: Make sure these permissions are turned on:
- SMS permission
- Contacts
Check the RCS Setting
If RCS messaging is enabled on your device, the IFTTT SMS service won’t be able to detect those messages. To ensure your Applet triggers as expected, you can turn RCS off this will allow standard SMS messages to trigger the Applet. Follow the steps below to adjust this setting:
Step 1: Open the Messages App
-
Go to the Google Messages app (this is the default for most Android phones).
-
Tap your profile icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Go to "Messages Settings"
-
From the menu, tap Messages then tap "Additional settings in the app"
-
Then tap RCS chats.
Step 3: Turn Off Chat Features
-
You’ll see a toggle for "Enable chat features" and turn it off.
Are You Signed Into the Right Account?
If your Applet isn't running, double-check that you're signed into the same IFTTT account across all devices.
For example, let’s say you create an SMS Applet on ExampleEmail@Yahoo.com while logged into IFTTT on a web browser. But later, you sign into the IFTTT app on your phone using ExampleEmail@Gmail.com - in that case, the Applet won’t work, because it's tied to the original account.
To avoid this, open the IFTTT app and ensure that your account email matches the one you used to create the Applet. You can find this in the app’s by tapping profile in the bottom right, then account, then confirm what email is listed in the email field.
Sending Texts and Images
At the moment, the Android SMS service only supports sending text messages. Image messages (MMS) aren’t supported yet, so any applets that try to send images or receive images won’t work as expected.
