Background
Some IFTTT services have limits for how often you can use them. These rate limits can be applied for a number of reasons, such as helping prevent spam or abuse. If you check your activity feed and see an error message that reads "usage limit exceeded," that means you’ve reached one of these limits.
The majority of services on IFTTT do not have any rate limits applied by IFTTT. However some services, such as X (Twitter)and the SMS service, have limits in place.
We aim to keep these limits transparent and will send you an email when you are approaching or have reached a limit.

When Do Rate Limits Reset
Daily limits: Reset at midnight in your local time, based on your account’s timezone settings.
Monthly limits: Reset on the first day of each month at midnight local time.
What to Do if You Hit a Rate Limit
If you hit a daily or monthly limit, your Applet will start working again automatically once the limit resets.
To avoid hitting limits, consider:
-
Configuring your Applets to run less often by choosing different trigger criteria.
For example, if you have an Applet that uses the RSS Feed service's New feed item trigger with the Twitter service's Post a Tweet action and it results in more than 200 posts a day, you could switch to the New feed item matches trigger to filter by specific keywords. This will reduce how often your Applet runs.
-
Adding filters to limit when your Applet runs.
More information on adding filter code to an Applet is available here.
