Managing Reddit Community Engagement using Applets

Tracking community engagement on a subreddit dedicated to or related to your business is essential for maintaining an active online presence. Using IFTTT, you can automate the monitoring of user posts and comments to ensure that no interaction goes unnoticed.

This guide provides a simple way to stay on top of subreddit conversations. Whether boosting support, gathering feedback, or strengthening audience connections, IFTTT helps you easily monitor your community's activity.

Enable Applets

To get started, you can enable these Applets depending on what service would be most helpful to monitor your community Reddit posts:
 

Reddit to Slack

 

Click the Applet above, then click connect to enable the Applet. On this screen replace "worldnews" with the name of the subreddit you'd like to monitor in the choose the subreddit you'd like to monitor field:
Next, enter the name of the Slack channel you'd like to receive the messages in the which channel field:
Lastly, press save and your Applet is ready to go. Any new posts in the Subreddit will now be sent to Slack. Once you've responded to the Post on Reddit, adding an emoji such as ✅ to the post in Slack can be a helpful way to track which messages have been responded to and which are still awaiting a response.
 

Reddit to Google Sheets

 

Click the Applet above, then click connect to enable the Applet. On this screen replace "worldnews" with the name of the subreddit you'd like to monitor in the choose the subreddit you'd like to monitor field:
Next, configure the action fields to your preference:
  • Spreadsheet name: Enter the name of the sheet you'd like the post to be added to. If its an existing sheet enter the name or if the sheet doesn't exist in your drive one will be created the first time the Applet runs
  • Formatted Row: You can customize which ingredients will be included from the Reddit trigger. Any Ingredients or Text you'd like to include can be separated by ||| to add it to separate cells in your sheet
  • Drive folder path: This is the location in your Google Drive where the Sheet will be created, or should link to the existing sheet if applicable
Click save then your Applet will begin tracking posts.When the Applet runs with the default settings seen above, column H will include "reply needed". After replying to the post, update that to replied to track which posts still need a response to ensure you're not missing any messages from your Community.
 

Create your own Applets

If you're interested in using a different action to track posts you can do so by following these steps, in this example we'll create an Applet that will add a task to Todoist reminding you to respond to the Reddit post:

  • Go to ifttt.com/create

  • Press add to the right of If This, then search for and select the Reddit service

  • Press the card titled Any new post in subreddit, enter the subreddit of your choice in the Subreddit field then press Create trigger

  • Next, press add to the right of Then That, search for and select the Todoist service

  • Choose the Create a Task card and configure the fields to your preference using ingredients from the Applet's trigger:

  • From there press Create action then follow the remaining prompts to name and save your Applet
