The Google Assistant V2 service’s Activate Scene trigger is a great way to integrate your Google Assistant and Google Nest hubs with IFTTT to trigger your Applets. Using this trigger you can set a Scene Name, then anytime you say “Ok Google, activate [Scene Name]" your Applet will run.
If you’d like to take this trigger to the next level, you can use Google Routines to trigger you Applet to avoid needing to say Activate when triggering your Applet. This will enable you to trigger your Applets in a more natural way, such as saying “OK Google, turn up my ringtone” instead of "Okay Google, activate turn up my ringtone."
Scenario: I want to use Google Assistant to log my weight on Fitbit without having to say 'Activate log weight'.
Step 1: Create an Applet with Google Assistant - Activate a scene as the trigger and Fitbit - Log your weight as the action. You can enter any placeholder phrase in the Scene name field.
Step 2: Open the Google Home app and tap Routines. Tap the plus button ( + ) > Add starter > click “When I say to Google Assistant" -> then enter your trigger phrase (Note: this is the actual trigger phrase that will fire the Google Assistant Applet) and tap Add starter -> Save.
Step 3: Add action > Adjust Home devices > Add scenes. After tapping Add scenes, you should be shown all devices (i.e. Applets) you created in Step 1. Tap Save and you should be good to go!
Step 4: To activate the Applet, just say the trigger phrase (the trigger phrase you entered in Step 3) to Google Assistant (e.g. "OK Google, log weight") and you're good to go!
